Most of the stories about the Underworld have been strongly exaggerated and misrepresented as they've been told over the years. For instance, the Underworld river Pyriphlegethon (meaning "fire-flaming" or something like that) was sometimes said to be a river of fire in the ancient myths. In my story it's just a river of hot water, but has somehow changed into a horrible river of fire in the stories of the mortals.

The doorway is quite inspired by that of "the Treasury of Atreus", a Mycenaean tholos tomb from the Bronze Age. It almost looks a little sci-fi. Must be the triangle. Triangles are always sci-fi.

You did a great job!! Before I read that the doorway was inspired by the Tholos tomb in Mycenae, I was reminded of it already. I recently visited it for the first time back in May so the memory is still very fresh. I loved it there. And I really love this story so far. So glad I found it!

@Maria:
Thank you!
Oh, you have been there? I hope that I can visit Mycenae some day, too. My only visit to Greece so far was to Crete.

Yup! I studied abroad in Greece and we spent a day at Mycenae. You could feel how... significantly ancient it was. Not sure if that makes sense. It was definitely a vibe that I'll never forget, though.
