This scene is inspired by a myth that says that Demeter once took pity on king Plemnaeus of Sicyon whose children all died at birth. She entered his home and reared his son Orthopolis to make sure that he survived. In my version she helps an ordinary peasant couple, since the peasants are the mortals who stand closest to her heart.
