In the real myth the Olympians didn't know what happened to Hephaistos after Hera had thrown him out, but I thought it was more likely that they actually did find him but decided to leave him with Thetis. The only reason they wouldn't try to find him would be if no one knew that Hera gave birth to a child at all.

If Athena had heard about this earlier, before Zeus told her about Metis, she probably would have been more shocked. Now it's like, 'oh, you didn't eat him? Well, then it wasn't so bad'. Well, maybe not exactly like that, but she has become a bit more used to crazy stuff.

This scene with Hera probably was a bit inspired by this scene in Driftwood by Tinet Elmgren: http://kommiekomiks.com/driftwood/?p=1557
